There are so many resources available on the internet that it can sometimes overwhelm us and consume hours and hours! Would you rather be quilting? Well, some surfing is fun but let’s get to the really good stuff.
This is a collection of our members’ favourite links with details/reviews about each. The collection will be reviewed, occasionally (that’s the plan) and comments will be incorporated when possible. What do you think of patterns or tutorials you’ve encountered … or are you having difficulty finding stuff? This page will change as comments and questions are received. Dead links will be removed as soon as we are sure the site isn’t just temporarily down.
Patterns
Free BOMs (Block of the Month)
1. http://applewd.com/BOM/page1.html
Piecing with some appliqué –> designed by Beth Ferrier.
The first block pattern and instructions is available now and a new block is published on the 15th of each month until September.
2. http://bunnyhilldesigns.com/dynamic/?page=Free%20Patterns
Appliqué –> designed by Ann Sutton.
Started in January but the patterns are still up for both January & February.
Holiday patterns
3. http://www.ezquilt.com/patterns/quiltedstocking/quiltedstocking.htm
EZ Quilting offers a free quilted stocking pattern, “Holiday Quilted Stocking“. It is a cute, little, pattern that uses the Companion Angle and Easy Rule rulers. However, the pattern does not state the block size or finished project size. If you use an exact 1/4″ seam allowance, the block should be 3 1/4″ and the finished stocking dimensions will be 8 1/4 by 5 1/2″. You could adapt the pattern to use any four of your own blocks.
Tutorials
http://www.purlbee.com/triangle-tutorial
The Purl Bee has a simple tutorial for sewing triangles. This is a great blog for beginners: quilting, knitting, crochet, and embroidery.
Another great blog (oh, Fransson!) for beginners: Quilt Along, where Elizabeth Hartman, of Portland, Oregon, uses a variety of fabrics in her quilts (not polyester, but linens and chambrey) and presses her seams open. I came across some good tips for squaring up blocks.

A short visit to the Houston International Quilt Festival – Oct. 2008 – watch these mini videos for a taste of the Festival. These are especially nice in the winter while we wait for quilt show season to return.
