We look forward to hearing Anita Zobens, of Cotton Mill Threadworks speak to us about threads on Nov 26, 2009.

Also, take this opportunity to ask questions about your quilting problems. It could be a simple thread or needle problem and Anita is just the one to advise.

Be sure to arrive before 7:30 so you can sign in and be seated before Anita is scheduled to begin.

Threads will be available for purchase.

This month we welcome guest speaker Sandy Proudfoot-Small who will be having a conversation about colour. Our block of the month will be starting up this month for a total cost of $10.00. The Halton Hill’s Quilt Guild will be at our October meeting selling tickets for their raffle quilt. We welcome new members and guests. The guest fee is $5.00.

This will be our first meeting of the quilting year and to get our creative juices flowing we will be having Rosemary Makhan as our guest speaker. She will be giving us a trunk show as well as having her patterns and books for sale.

We will be renewing our membership at this meeting. The cost is $35.00 and a cheque is preferred. New members are welcome. Guest fee is $5.00.

We meet at Loafer’s Lake Rec Centre, 2 Loafer’s Lake Lane. Come and be inspired!

We will be working on our 2011 Raffle quilt … July 20, 24, 27, and 31 between 9:00 and 3:00 pm. If you are interested in learning about traditional quilt making, please join us.

Celtic Blocks

We will start by assembling the celtic blocks from the 2009 Block Challenge. You will also pick up tips for squaring up fabric for accurate rotary cutting, quilt frame assembly, attaching a quilt to the frame, and hand quilting.

We won’t get to the quilting bee today we are setting up for that purpose. If you can bring your sewing machines and sewing kit you are welcome to participate. Anyone interested in the process is welcome to watch and learn.

Our last meeting of the year, where we will elect a new Executive to lead us next year. There are still a few spots to fill – Blitzes, Web Moderator, Quilt Show, Treasurer – all are important to the running of the Guild. If you need more info on any of these positions, call an Executive member or talk to us at the meeting on Thursday.

Once the business is taken care of, we will have some fun with our Strawberry “Sew-cial” and enjoy viewing the Mystery Quilts that have been completed this year. I am looking forward to seeing the quilt I have yet to start…

Please check the newsletter to see if you are one of the Hostesses for this meeting and bring your strawberries or other fruit washed, pared and ready to eat!

May 28th Meeting

Another quilt show is successfully behind us! It was a great weekend and we received many positive comments about the venue, the displays and the artistry of our members. This month at our Guild meeting, we will be presenting the ribbons to all the winning Viewer’s Choice entries as well as the winning Challenge entries as voted by the membership in March. This meeting is free to guests, so it’s a great time to bring a friend along who may then wish to join us next year.

Digital photos were taken of all the entries in the show. A photo CD will be available at a cost of $5. Please bring your cheque or cash to the May meeting and place your order. The CD’s will be available for pickup at the June meeting.
